The European Parliament debated the deportation of 40 Uyghurs from Thailand to China, passing a resolution with a strong majority of 482 votes.
MEP Lukas Sieper welcomed the decisive vote, emphasizing the need for clear language: Uyghurs are being placed in concentration camps, and Parliament must acknowledge this reality.
The resolution reaffirmed support for Uyghurs and criticized Thailand for yielding to Chinese diplomatic pressure. Sieper stressed Europe’s responsibility to protect Uyghurs and condemned ongoing persecution, even in Germany. He himself has been followed by Chinese spies when meeting Uyghur activists, highlighting Beijing’s global repression.
With this resolution, the EU Parliament signals its commitment to defending human rights.
